It's around this time of year I realize how spoiled (and how blessed) I am. I look at what some of the clients of Interlude go through in dealing with severe mental illness - from the stigma still surrounding mental illness, to the symptoms of their illnesses, to the side effects of their medications. When I think of those things I am thankful that I don't suffer as they do, and that they have help from Interlude. I believe those of us in the world who don't suffer as much (or who aren't at the moment) must help those who are suffering. Since it's 'birth' in 1978 through the vision of Celine Karraker, Interlude has provided a caring and warm place for people to receive help with their mental illness in a secure environment. Will you join me in counting your blessings today? Will you support Interlude and help someone who is struggling? Thank you and wishing a very Happy Holiday season to everyone once again. See you in 2010!

The meaning of the Holidays
I don't believe the Holiday season is in full swing! The last thing I remember the leaves were just changing color...this time of year passes so quickly. One thing I've been really impressed by this holiday season is the extra spirit of generosity that seems to be in the air. Times are tough out there, but people are banding together to show they care about their communities. They are donating to homeless shelters, food banks, and many non profits in need. Interlude has had some generous financial help with the holiday party for our clients this Wednesday, that we normally don't ask for but needed this year. Our dedicated donors have also been sending in their checks to help with our financial shortfall due to state and other budget cuts this year. But we still need more help. People with severe mental illness, without services like Interlude, often are in and out of hosptials and institutions, jail, and even live on the streets. I have faith that people in this community will not let their neighbors with mental illness go without care. Thanks everyone.

A great phone call
The other day I had the priviledge to speak with the parent of an Interlude client. I called to thank her and her husband for a very generous donation to the agency, and we had a nice talk about her son.
"He is so different than he used to be - I can't thank Interlude enough," came from her lips several times, and I was just so overwhelmed by her words. Why? Because it means that Interlude is helping to change lives. That's why every staff person here, is here - to help bring hope to people in our community who might otherwise have none. Thanks to the family member I spoke to, and to all Interlude supporters. What a great phone call!
